Outlet Used Book Superstore

 East Providence, RI

Update: The books are now $3 each. Maybe I promoted them too much! Their stock is made up of donations entirely.

All books $2? How can they do that? Recently opened on Warren Ave. Small yet well stocked bookstore. Books are separated only by fiction/nonfiction/children’s which can be a fun way to shop for some.

The Library Book

 Book Review

By Susan Orlean
4.2/5*

Yes, this book is about a library actually libraries. To those who love libraries, remember going to libraries as a child to pick up or drop off books, you will want to read this one. It goes through a devastating fire that took place at a library in Los Angeles in the 80s. The book moves through the investigation and the possible suspect. It also gives the history of libraries, why they were started and why we still need them.

Me Before You

 Book Series Review

By Jojo Moyes
4+/5*

This is a trilogy best read in order. Starting with Me Before You. The others are After You and Still Me. Most of the time I don’t like to read the same author in a row. I don’t want to feel like I’m reading the same story over and over again. This is a continuation of the main character story. It is hard to not want to find out what happens to her next. I’ve read a couple other books by Moyes but this seems to be her best work in my opinion. It has been described “the love story of this generation”. It has been compared to The Fault in Our Stars.

Tis, A Memoir

 Book Review

By Frank McCourt
4.5/5*

Readers know of his most popular book, Angela’s Ashes. I found the book good yet depressing. I much prefer this book, ‘Tis. It is the story of an immigrant making his way in America. He goes through being drafted into the army, working on the docks, becoming an English teacher and eventually an author. Hearing his version of handling students kept my interest. He throws in his humor which keeps it fun.

Fall River Public Library

Fall River, MA

As Fall River was a very wealthy city back in 1899, they built a beautiful library. There was a renovation in 2001. Many of the best details are still visible to all. The art work and the architectural details are worth a visit. Tours are available from a long time librarian. Being in Fall River, of course they have a collection of Lizzie Borden artifacts. They have a bookmobile that travels throughout the city visiting schools, parks, senior centers… There are many events going on in the library. They have had some controversial issues. A recent of these was when there were transgender adults reading to children. News articles talked about parents being uncomfortable with the situation.

A new book store popped up in a mill in the city. It is located in an art shop. Everything is for sale from paintings, to totes,…and, of course, books. There is both new and used books. Small yet good selection in various genres are here. They are very excited to have author events regularly. There’s also opportunities for children’s art classes.
