Boston Public Library

Boston, MA

There were several Boston library buildings prior to the current home. Each were outgrown in a matter of years. The current building was constructed in 1895. It is considered the “first outstanding example of Renaissance Beaux-Arts Classicism in America.” I enjoyed browsing the rooms and courtyard. However I would have loved to have taken the art and architecture tour. It has been canceled due to the elevator not working. https://www.bpl.org/central-library-points-of-interest/

A Little Ray of Sunshine

 Book Review

By Liane Moriarty
4/5*

Looking at the cover and the name you may think.. beach read, light, love story.

The story is about adoption from so many points of view. Expect an interesting read from none other than Moriarty. Most of the book takes place in Wellfleet, which is on Cape Cod, MA. The lead character owns a bookstore with her family. She had to make an impossible decision that affected many people. Did she make the right choice then and now? The cousin is also quite a character. Once she finds out her true past, she becomes a different person.

Barrington Public Library

 Barrington,

The original library was located in the town hall building in 1888. It is has been compared to architecture straight out of Harry Potter. The current library building was a school. The move was in 1984. It has some features that more libraries would like such as an auditorium. Each breakout room is bright and airy with a copy of a famous painting. A couple of large renovations have taken place since.

The Providence Antheneum

 Providence, RI

A MUST VISIT

A beautiful old building filled with books, statues, history and desks; what more can you ask for? Is it a great place to get work done? It has a great atmosphere but so many tourists to be able to concentrate. It was built in 1838. The original structure has been expanded a couple of times. Donations are welcome as an admission charge. Events can be booked here by renting space. Photo shoots can be arranged at a cost as well. Notice the special collection of Mark Twain books and nostalgia related to him. The website has so much more information.

Outlet Used Book Superstore

 East Providence, RI

Update: The books are now $3 each. Maybe I promoted them too much! Their stock is made up of donations entirely.

All books $2? How can they do that? Recently opened on Warren Ave. Small yet well stocked bookstore. Books are separated only by fiction/nonfiction/children’s which can be a fun way to shop for some.

The Library Book

 Book Review

By Susan Orlean
4.2/5*

Yes, this book is about a library actually libraries. To those who love libraries, remember going to libraries as a child to pick up or drop off books, you will want to read this one. It goes through a devastating fire that took place at a library in Los Angeles in the 80s. The book moves through the investigation and the possible suspect. It also gives the history of libraries, why they were started and why we still need them.

Banned Books

Hot Topic  I recently went to a group meeting at a local library. Their series topic was banned books. Each month they discuss one of these...
